Taking a stand. (Free Resource!)

This month Listen Up Mentor has written a resource tilted 'My Anxiety'. This two-page resource aims to help children and young people (and some adults) understand the difference between being anxious and having anxiety.

The resource goes on the to say that, being anxious is actually OK and is healthy. Plus anxiety can stop us from getting hurt. It is only when our fear starts effecting us, on a day to day basis, this is where it can become an issue.

We have made this resource so that mentors can start to speak about what anxiety is.

Our media has a focus on mental health, and some are passing the blame. We are not going to give the blame; instead, we have decided to to do something about it.

Tell anyone who works with children and young people to email us asking for the 'My Anxiety' resource; we will send them a free copy! The issue is too big to keep under the radar. We want to help.

There are no strings attached you send the email, we send the resource. If you want to sign up to our site or mailing list, great, if not, we just say thank you for supporting the next generation.

So email 'info@listenupmentor.org' saying 'My Anxiety' and we will send your free copy.

Why is anxiety so high?

A quick BBC search showed stats about knife crime since 2009-2018. The stats show that knife crime was going down from 2009-2014 and is now on the rise. (The URL for the stats https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-46153257) This data does show that knife crime has also risen with our youth (aged 10-17) as well. The anxious part of me is that the information is showing that knife crime is rising. However, another piece of data shows that in 2006, knife crime was higher than it is now. This doesn't make it better, but it brings hope; after 2006, all the way to 2014 knife assaults were declining. The hope is that we have prevented knife crime in the past and that we can do it again. (https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-42749089) This is just one thing that can make people feel anxious.

There are 100s of reasons why anxiety is rising. I am not going to go into all of that now; instead, we are going to give this resource away to anyone who has read our blog.
